The installation, commissioning and de-commissioning of single head, split air conditioning and heat pumps systems to a prescribed routine where the maximum plant capacity for each system does not exceed 18 kW.
This qualification excludes competencies required for service, repair, maintenance, diagnostic/fault finding and electrical work or the safe and proper installation of commercial refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump plant and equipment.
This course teaches you to assemble and position, start up single-head split air-conditioning units and systems to a prescribed routine. This includes wall hung, floor and ceiling suspended Split systems and water heating heat pumps.
Once successfully completed, you can apply for your refrigerant handling licence through Arctick.
To be eligible to undertake the course you must currently hold an Australian Unrestricted Electrical Licence.
Content Delivery
Theory Assessment (Online, Self-Paced), Practical Assessments (1 day Face to Face), On the Job Supervisor sign off of installations. One installation sign-off is completed during the course, and another must be completed onsite by a Refrigeration Mechanic.

Energy Training Group is a Nationally Recognised Training Organisation, and students who successfully complete this course will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the units of competency UEE20120.
Training Outcome
Successful completion of this course will result in the award of a Statement of Attainment in the current version of the following Units of Competency.
Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace.
Participate in development and follow a personal competency development plan.
Fabricate, assemble and dismantle utilities industry components.
Fix and secure electrotechnology.
Use drawings, diagrams, schedules, standards, codes and specifications.
Document and apply measures to control WHS risks associated with electrotechnology work.
Prepare and connect refrigerant tubing and fitting.
Recover, pressure test, evacuate, charge and leak test refrigerants – split systems.
Install and start up single head split air conditioning and water heating pump systems.
Apply environmentally sustainable procedures in the energy sector.
Maintain documentation.
To take this course, you must be at least one of the following:
– A licensed electrician holding a current electrical work licence.
– A qualified plumber or gas fitter interested in recognition of prior learning (RPL).
– A 3rd or 4th electrical apprentice who has successfully completed the units of competency outlined in the first years of an electrotechnology apprenticeship and has at least two years of industry experience.
– For non-electrical workers – recognition of prior learning (RPL) is offered if you have a trade qualification in plumbing/gas fitting.
This course involves simulated workplace practical training additional to the online theory components.
1-day practical component held at an Energy Training Group training facility.
On completion of the split system air conditioning course at one of our delivery locations, you may undertake further studies to gain additional qualifications.
