The Battery Storage Systems for Grid-Connected PV Systems: Design only Course is designed for grid-connected photovoltaic system designers who wish to further their skills by being able to incorporate battery storage systems.

The delivery mode of this course is designed for busy tradespeople and professionals who do not have the time to attend lengthy face-to-face courses to expand their knowledge and skills: the fully flexible web-based format of the online component allows students to complete the theory in their own time.

To enrol in this course, you must have previously successfully completed an approved Grid-connected PV Systems Design course. Students who successfully complete all components of the course will receive a Statement of Attainment  OR a certificate of completion equivalent to UEERE5001. This meets the training component of the Clean Energy Council’s requirements for Battery Storage Design Accreditation for CEC Grid-connect accredited designers; however, this course is not considered Nationally Recognised Training for students who have not completed the relevant VET sector prerequisite units of competency.

Training Outcome

Successful completion of this Battery Storage Systems for Grid-Connected PV Systems Design Only course will result in the award of a Statement of Attainment Or Certificate of Completion the following Unit of Competency:
Design battery storage systems for grid-connected photovoltaic systems

Students holding the prerequisite Unit of Competency UEENEEK135A and UEENEEK125A OR UEERE0011 and UEERE0022 will receive a Statement of Attainment for the current version of this Unit of Competency.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be eligible to apply to the Clean Energy Council for the Design of Battery Storage accreditation.

This course builds on the knowledge of the Grid-Connected PV Systems Design only course, so a prerequisite for enrolment is a Statement of Attainment in, or certificate of completion equivalent to, the following Units of Competency :
  • UEENEEK135A: Design grid connected photovoltaic power supply systems,
  • UEENEEK125A: Solve basic problems in photovoltaic energy apparatus and systems.
  • UEERE0011: Design grid-connected photovoltaic power supply systems.
  • UEERE0022: Solve basic problems in photovoltaic energy apparatus and systems.

Online mode: The course will be delivered 100% online and can complete the course at students’ own pace.

Online Course Timeframe: The time to complete the online component will differ between students, but students should expect to commit around 84 hours (60 hours for online content and assessments, and 24 hours for the design task).

Courses are valid for twelve (12) months. Extension fees apply from the date of expiry, and the maximum extension permitted is six (6) months from the date of expiry.

ETG has a team of tutors who mark the online work and as necessary supply feedback or additional technical information to the students. ETG’s tutors are also available to be contacted by phone during business hours or email.

Energy Training Group is providing the book from GSES publication titled Battery Storage Systems for Grid-Connected PV Systems 2nd Edition to the students enrolled in this course. The course fees cover the cost of the book and delivery. Interested students, who want to buy newer editions can buy the book from SAI Global website or Techstreet website. The book is also available for reading in some libraries, institutions and industry associations in Australia:

  • AS/NZS 4777.1 – Grid connection of energy systems via inverters – Part 1: Installation requirements
  • AS/NZS 5033 – Installation and safety requirements for photovoltaic (PV) arrays
  • AS/NZS 3000 – Wiring Rules
  • AS/NZS 3008.1.1 – Electrical installations – Selection of cables

Students admitted in this course must ensure they have:
